Abstract
Education is a key element in shaping competitive and superior human resources in a global context. One of the important skills that supports success in learning is reading ability. Initial observations and interviews conducted in September 2025 obtained results on the learning process. First grade students experienced difficulties in the reading learning process. They already knew vowels and consonants, but still had difficulty reading word combinations. During the learning process, teachers only used text-based media. The purpose of this study was to develop Wonder Board learning media for early reading material in first grade elementary schools.
This study uses the Research and Development (RnD) research and development method. This method consists of five stages, namely ADDIE, which stands for Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This study was conducted on first-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 05 Batu using the Indonesian language subject of early reading. This study used qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. Qualitative data analysis was obtained from the results of interviews, observations, suggestions, and comments from validators. Quantitative data analysis was obtained from material expert validation, media expert validation, teacher response questionnaires, and first-grade student response questionnaires. The data obtained was used to test the validity, practicality, and attractiveness of the Wonder Board media in early reading learning in first grade at SD Muhammadiyah 05 Batu.
The results of the study show that the Wonder Board media, as assessed by the subject matter expert validation questionnaire, obtained a score of 91%. Meanwhile, the media expert validation obtained a score of 86%. Both validations qualified the material and media as suitable for use in the early reading learning process in first grade elementary school. The teacher response questionnaire obtained a score of 90%, and the teacher response obtained a score of 94%. Based on the results of these two questionnaires, the responses were qualified as very good. The conclusion from the questionnaire results is that the development of the Wonder Board learning media for early reading in first grade elementary school is valid, practical, and interesting to use in the learning process and can help achieve learning objectives.
