Abstract
Resilience is a positive adaptive ability that arises from basic human systems or ordinary magic. The phenomenon of resilience is an essential issue for single mothers who work as teachers, because this group faces greater double pressure than mothers with partners or teachers in general. One factor of resilience is emotional regulation, including cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. This study aims to examine the role of social support as a moderated in the influence of emotional regulation, both in terms of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression on resilience. This quantitative study, using purposive sampling, involved 166 subjects aged 24-44 years who were divorced or widowed and worked as teachers. Data were obtained through the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The results show that moderated by social support in both the cognitive reappraisal dimension (p = 0.000) and the expressive suppression dimension (p = 0.037), on resilience. This study concludes that social support strengthens the effects of emotion regulation, particularly the cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression dimensions, on resilience. These findings recommend interventions focused on strengthening emotional regulation to enhance resilience among single mothers who work as teachers.
