Abstract

This study is motivated by the mistakes made by parents in responding to children’s negative behaviors, particularly in relation to the role of religion within the family, especially during early childhood or school-age years, namely between the ages of 2 and 7. The research problems focus on identifying the factors that cause the normalization of children’s misbehavior in the family, examining the forms of errors in normalizing such behavior that are inconsistent with religious values, and analyzing the role of religion in addressing children’s misbehavior within the family context. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The subjects of the study are parents who have children aged 2 to 7 years, along with the children’s family environment. Data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews, then analyzed through three stages: data collection, data reduction, and data presentation based on the findings obtained. The research results show that the justification of children's bad behavior is influenced by unsupervised digital media use, social environments, permissive and inconsistent parenting, and a lack of early instillation of religious values. Furthermore, it was found that the role of religion through the habituation of worship, parental role models, and the instillation of moral values can help reduce children's bad behavior when implemented consistently within the family.
