Abstract
Introduction: Stroke is a major cause of disability that requires ongoing care by family caregivers. The readiness of family caregivers in caring for stroke patients is very important for optimal patient recovery, but currently many family caregivers feel unprepared for their new role. Objectives: This study aims to analyse the relationship between the level of knowledge and the readiness of family caregivers in caring for stroke patients. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a correlational approach. The study sample consisted of 250 family caregivers of stroke patients at the Neurology Clinic of Wava Husada Kepanjen Hospital, selected using accidental sampling. The research instruments used were the Assessment Caregiver Knowledge questionnaire to measure knowledge levels and The Preparedness Caregiving Scale (PCS) to measure readiness. Data were analysed using Spearman's correlation test with a significance level of α=0.01. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents had a high level of knowledge (57.2%) and were in the ready (36.8%) and very ready (34.4%) categories. Spearman's correlation test showed a significant positive relationship between the level of knowledge and the readiness of family caregivers (p-value = 0.000; r = +0.686), with a strong relationship. Conclusions: There is a strong and significant positive relationship between the level of knowledge and the readiness of family caregivers in caring for stroke patients. The higher the level of knowledge of family caregivers, the higher their readiness in caring for stroke patients.
