Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ mathematical communication skills in solving open-ended problems based on personality types. The underlying issue of this research is the variation in students’ mathematical communication characteristics influenced by personality types, which affects how students express ideas and understanding in mathematics learning. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of four eighth-grade students representing the sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic personality types. Data were collected through a personality type questionnaire, open-ended problem tests on circle material, and interviews. The results indicate that each personality type demonstrates distinct characteristics of mathematical communication. Sanguine students tend to be expressive but less systematic, choleric students are assertive yet lack detail, melancholic students are systematic and detailed, while phlegmatic students tend to be cautious but less active.
