Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the effect of a differentiated learning approach integrated with discovery learning on students’ scientific literacy and environmental care character, as well as the relationship between the two variables. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. The participants consisted of 60 tenth-grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Lamongan, divided into an experimental group and a control group. The research instruments included a scientific literacy test and an environmental care character questionnaire, both of which had been validated and tested for reliability. Data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test and Pearson Correlation analysis. The results indicated that the differentiated learning approach integrated with discovery learning had a significant effect on students’ scientific literacy and environmental care character (Sig. < 0.05). In addition, a positive and significant correlation was found between scientific literacy and environmental care character. These quantitative findings were supported by formative assessment results showing improvements in students’ abilities to explain scientific phenomena, design and evaluate investigations, and interpret data, along with increased awareness, attitudes, and behaviors related to environmental care during the learning process. Summative assessment results confirmed students’ overall achievement. Therefore, this approach is effective in simultaneously enhancing students’ cognitive and affective aspects and is relevant to the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum and the strengthening of the Pancasila Student Profile.
