Abstract
Background : Hemodialysis not only impact on aspect physical, but also influence condition psychological patient, wrong the only one is hopelessness. Research this aim for know connection between level hoplessness with coping strategy on patient fail kidney chronicles undergoing hemodialysis.
Method : Design study use design descriptive correlation with approach cross-sectional with 139 patients undergoing hemodialysis in hemodialysis room at Wava Husada Hospital Kepanjen. Data collection using Beck Hopelessness Scale and Brief COPE questionnaires and test analysis use test statistics non-parametric that is test correlation Spearman Rank.
Results : Results study show that part big patients undergoing hemodialysis is at on category hoplessness normal level as many as 113 respondents (81.3%). Meanwhile That majority patient own coping strategy adaptive as many as 122 respondents (87.8%). Results test Spearman correlation shows there is connection negative between level hoplessness with coping strategy proven with mark significance of 0.001 and value (r) of 0.441 with a strength connection currently.
Conclusion : Chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis with lower levels of hoplessness tend to use more adaptive coping strategies. Conversely, the higher the level of despair experienced by patients, the more maladaptive the coping strategies used to deal with the disease and the hemodialysis process. Therefore, ongoing psychological support and education are needed to reduce levels of hopelessness and increase the use of adaptive coping strategies in hemodialysis patients.
