Abstract

Background : Hypertension is a growing health problem and a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Besides medication, regular physical activity and salt restriction are essential to support successful blood pressure control. Purpose : To explore the description of non-pharmacological interventions carried out by hypertensive patients in lowering blood pressure. Method : This study used a qualitative method with a case study design involving three participants: Mr. H (P1), Mr. P (P2), and Mr. S (P3). Data validity was ensured through source triangulation using semi-structured face-to-face interviews. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Result : Data analysis from validated participant interviews revealed four main themes: 1) Physical condition changes in newly diagnosed hypertension patients, 2) Non-pharmacological lifestyle modifications in hypertension management, 3) Barriers encountered during non-pharmacological therapy implementation, and 4) Perceived benefits from non-pharmacological interventions. Conclusion : Regular physical activity and low-salt diet effectively stabilize blood pressure, supported by tangible benefits from non-pharmacological therapy, despite existing barriers that require adaptive strategies.
