Abstract

Background: Stroke is an acute neurological disorder caused by impaired blood flow to the brain, which can reduce a patient’s ability to perform Activity Daily Living (ADL). This condition requires family support to assist the recovery process and improve independence in daily activities. Objective: To explore the role of family support in improving ADL independence among post-stroke patients using a qualitative approach. Methods: This qualitative study used a case study approach focusing on an in-depth analysis of a single post-stroke patient. Participants consisted of one patient and two family members. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis with source triangulation. Results: Data analysis identified four main themes: (1) informational family support, (2) emotional support, (3) instrumental support, and (4) appraisal support. Conclusion: Family involvement has a significant influence on improving patients’ independence in performing daily activities (ADL). The more optimal the family support provided, the greater the opportunity for post-stroke patients to regain physical and emotional independence in their daily lives.
