HUBUNGAN IDE BUNUH DIRI DENGAN PERILAKU MENCARI BANTUAN PADA MAHASISWA DI KOTA MALANG

University students are in a transitional age group that is vulnerable to psychological distress due to various demands they face. Such pressures can trigger suicidal ideation, especially when individuals lack adaptive coping strategies, including help-seeking behavior. This study aimed to examine the relationship between suicidal ideation and help-seeking behavior among undergraduate students in Malang. A correlational quantitative design was employed, involving 347 active students selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Suicidal Ideation Scale and the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire. The results revealed a significant negative correlation between suicidal ideation and help-seeking behavior (p < 0.001, ρ = -0.454), including the overt (p < 0.001, ρ = -0.377) and covert dimensions (p < 0.001, ρ = -0.438). These findings suggest that higher levels of suicidal ideation are associated with a lower tendency to seek help. The study emphasizes the importance of early detection and mental health education on campus, particularly in addressing suicidal thoughts that may not be outwardly expressed.
