Abstract

Background: Stroke is a major cause of physical disability that requires long – term care, with the family playing a crucial role in rehabilitation. The family plays a very important role in caring for stroke patients, but it cannot be denied that various obstacles and difficulties are also experienced by the family during the nursing process. This study focuses on exploring the family’s experience in caring for stroke patients during the rehabilitation phase, with the hope of providing on overview of the importance of the role, support, and involvement of the family in the stroke care process. The Purpose of this study is to explore the experience of Mrs.K’s family in Tegalgondo Village, Malang Regency, in caring for post – stroke patients, identifying challenges and support to improve quality of life. The research Method used is a qualitative case study design research conducted on October 29 to november 17, 2025. Participans were selected using purposive sampling techniques according to the data namely Husband (Mr.E, 64 years old), Son (Mr.A, 34 years old), Patient (Mrs.K, 64 years old). Data from semi – structured interviews ( total 51 minutes), source triangulation, and domain analysis. Ethics were adhered to through informed consent and data confidentiality. Results of Post – stroke treatmenr effort (Physiotherapy, acupunture, 20 sessions), Family Support in Supporting Patients (emotional,instrumental), Challenges in the Treatment Program (fatigue,stubborn patients), and the Stroke Rehabilitation Program (walking, light activities). Conclusion: Based on ton these themes, it can be conclused that family experiences in caring for stroke patients include training in mobilization, delivering therapy, supervising medication and dietary control, and providing encouragement. Families play a crucial role in rehabilitation, where emotional support, motivation, and assistance with daily activities accelerate physical and cognitive recovery. Despite challenges such as difficulty reminding patients who do not comply with doctor's instructions and emotional burdens, adequate education and training have been shown to improve families' ability to provide optimal care.
