Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the influence of initial arrival weight on the average daily gain (ADG) of Brahman Cross cattle—Heifers, Steers, and Bulls—raised under an intensive feedlot system. A total of 270 animals were categorized into three weight classes (250–300 kg, 300–350 kg, and 350–400 kg) and analyzed using One Way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s test to determine differences in growth performance. The results indicate that arrival weight significantly affects ADG only in Heifers, with the lightest weight group achieving the highest growth rate. In Steers, initial weight differences do not lead to meaningful variation in ADG, whereas Bulls show numerical differences that are not statistically significant. Overall, the study highlights that the effect of initial weight on growth performance is strongly dependent on cattle type, with Heifers exhibiting the most noticeable response. These findings provide valuable insights for selecting efficient feeder cattle in Brahman Cross feedlot operations.
