Abstract

This study aims to understand how interpersonal communication is carried out by married couples from different religious backgrounds. Interfaith marriage is a social phenomenon that exists in Indonesia's diverse society and often poses unique challenges in domestic life. Differences in beliefs have the potential to cause conflict, so effective communication strategies are needed to maintain harmony in relationships. This study uses Joseph A. Devito's interpersonal communication theory as a basis for understanding the process of message exchange between individuals who have a close relationship. According to Devito, interpersonal communication is the process of verbal and nonverbal message delivery that occurs between two or more people with the aim of mutual understanding, relationship building, and mutual influence. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews and observations of three married couples in interfaith marriages. The results of the study show that interfaith couples can build healthy and constructive communication through the application of interpersonal communication principles. Attitudes of mutual respect for differences, openness in expressing thoughts and feelings, and maturity in responding to family dynamics, including relationships with extended families of different religions, are key factors in me
