Abstract

This study aims to assess the growth rate or resistance of mangrove plants to barnacle pest attacks and analyze the success of mangrove plants against the potential of barnacle pests on the growth of mangrove seedlings. The study was conducted in PangPang Bay, Banyuwangi, in August - October 2025 using a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors, namely mangrove species (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora mucronata, and Sonneratia alba) and various ages (6 and 24 months), with three replications. The parameters observed included seedling height, number of leaves, attack level, and mortality. The results of the analysis showed that age and species factors significantly affected the number of leaves and mortality of seedlings. The highest growth height was shown in the 24-month-old treatment (U2 = 0.02 cm) and the highest species treatment was in Sonneratia alba (J3 = 0.02 cm). The highest number of leaves was found in Sonneratia alba (J3 = 118), the highest barnacle infestation rate was found in Bruguiera gymnorrhiza and Rhizophora mucronata (J1 and J2 = 100%), and the highest seedling mortality was found in Rhizophora mucronata (J2 = 75%). Statistically, all parameters showed no significant effect on the interaction (U x J).
