Abstract

The policy of abolishing the National Examination (UN) and transitioning to the National Assessment marks a transformation in educational evaluation in Indonesia, shifting from an output-based orientation to one based on process and competency. This study aims to analyze student perceptions regarding changes in the learning system following the abolition of the UN and to identify the implications for student learning motivation at MAM 2 Banjaranyar.
This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research subjects consisted of 44 grade XII students, 7 teachers, and 3 school policymakers. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques , which were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The results indicate that the majority of students hold a positive perception regarding the abolition of the UN. Students experienced reduced psychological pressure and viewed the new evaluation system, which is based on portfolios and projects, as fairer and more humanist because it accounts for individual learning processes. Regarding implications, although there were initial indications of a decline in learning focus due to the absence of external graduation standards , student motivation increased through the implementation of interactive and practice-based learning methods. These findings confirm that the abolition of the UN has shifted student learning patterns from rote memorization to becoming more independent and flexible, yet its success heavily relies on teacher creativity in designing engaging formative assessments.
