Abstract
Low digital literacy and student motivation to learn are among the main challenges in science education in the digital age. Observations at Al Qudwah Musi Rawas Islamic Junior High School show that 85% of students use digital devices every day for entertainment and only 20% use them for learning. In addition, motivation to learn about living things is still low because the subject matter is considered abstract and difficult to visualize, Living Things is still low because the material is considered abstract and difficult to visualize, while learning is still dominated by conventional media such as PowerPoint and Student Worksheets (LKM). This condition shows the need for innovative learning media that can improve digital literacy and student learning motivation through immersive and interactive learning experiences. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of metaverse-based E-Media for Science Learning on the subject of Classification of Living Things for junior high school level. This research uses a
Research and Development (R&D) type of research with the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. 50 students from class VII of SMP IT Al Qudwah Musi Rawas as research subjects, divided into experimental and control classes. Research instruments included expert validation sheets, practicality questionnaires for teachers and students, as well as digital literacy and learning motivation questionnaires. Data was analyzed quantitatively using Aiken's V, percentage of practicality, t-test, N-Gain, and Cohen's d. The results showed that the developed media had sufficient validity (mean Aiken's V = 0.76). The practicality test obtained a score of 84.62% from teachers and 78.72% from students, classified as practical. The effectiveness test showed a significant increase in digital literacy (N-Gain = 0.61; Cohen’s d = 1.45) and learning motivation (N-Gain = 0.52; Cohen’s d = 2.40). It can be concluded that the metaverse-based E-Media for Science Learning developed is valid, practical, and effective for use in learning. This media is capable of providing a learning experience that is contextual, interactive, and enjoyable, while also supporting the development of 21st-century competencies such as digital literacy, critical thinking, and student creativity.
