Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content of public comments and identify the corpus that became the main focus of discussion in the discourse regarding the ratification of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Bill (RUU TNI) on the Kompas TV YouTube channel. The seemingly sudden change to the law sparked concern and critical responses from the wider public, captured in digital comments. This study employed an exploratory quantitative approach using Computational Text Analysis techniques using Voyant Tools, which generated text frequency, sentiment analysis, thematic clusters, and co-occurrence relationships. Comment data was collected through seven content pieces regarding the ratification of the RUU TNI using Google Apps Script, resulting in a total of 7,610 comments. The data then underwent a pre-processing stage to remove irrelevant data. The results of this study revealed that the "DPR" corpus was the most dominant corpus at each change in the four major themes in the discourse: people's representation, power relations, student participation, and attention to legal and democratic aspects. These findings indicate that the legislative institution is in a paracrisis phase, marked by a strong wave of criticism and negative perceptions of the House of Representatives' performance and decisions regarding the TNI Bill in public discourse. The implications of this research provide important insights into the dynamics of political communication in the digital space.
