Abstract
The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed teaching and learning practices in schools, including Indonesian language instruction. This condition requires the strengthening of students’ digital literacy skills so that they are able to access, evaluate, and use information critically, ethically, and responsibly. This study aims to analyze the use of learning media in Indonesian language subjects to describe students’ digital literacy skills at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Kepanjen, as well as to identify the challenges and efforts encountered in the learning process.
This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of the school principal, Indonesian language teachers, and students of grades VIII and IX. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, open- ended questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source triangulation.
The findings indicate that Indonesian language learning at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Kepanjen has utilized various digital learning media, such as Chromebooks, Google Classroom, Quizizz, Canva, and YouTube. The use of digital media assists students in understanding learning materials, increasing learning engagement, and facilitating the development of digital literacy skills. Students’ digital literacy skills vary; most students are able to operate digital devices and access learning materials, yet some still experience difficulties in evaluating the credibility of information sources and applying digital ethics. The main challenges in utilizing digital learning media include unstable internet connectivity and students’ potential distractions when using digital devices. Teachers’ efforts to address these challenges involve intensive guidance, supervision of device usage, and the integration of digital ethics in learning activities.
This study concludes that the use of digital learning media in Indonesian language instruction can serve as an important means to describe students’ digital literacy skills in a contextual manner. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of Indonesian language learning and the strengthening of digital literacy among junior high school students.
