Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the food composition and feeding behavior of Javan langur (Trachypithecus auratus) in socialization cage 3 at the Javan Langur Center Rehabilitation Facility. The research object consisted of five Javan langur individuals, with behavioral observations focused on one male (Wawan) and one female (Icha) as representatives of group behavior. The study applied a scan sampling method with an instantaneous sampling technique at five-minute intervals over a 14-day observation period conducted from 08:00 to 17:00 WIB. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using the Normalitas Mann–Whitney U test with SPSS software. The results showed that mountain datura (Datura metel) was the most frequently consumed food plant, accounting for 22.65% of total consumption, while young leaves and shoots were the most preferred plant parts. The Mann–Whitney U test indicated no significant difference in feeding duration between male and female individuals (p > 0.05), although mean rank values showed certain consumption tendencies for specific plant parts. Feeding behavior was the most dominant activity observed, whereas sexual behavior was limited to the pre-copulation stage. This study concludes that the food composition and feeding behavior of Javan langurs in captivity are relatively uniform among individuals and are not influenced by sex differences.
