KORELASI BODY CONDITION SCORE (BCS) INDUK DENGAN BOBOT BADAN LAHIR CEMPE DAN JUMLAH ANAKAN CEMPE YANG LAHIR DI PT. SEDANA PETERNAK SENTOSA

This study aims to determine the relationship between the Body Condition Score (BCS) of ewes and the birth weight of lambs as well as the number of lambs (litter size) born at PT. Sedana Peternak Sentosa. The study was conducted using 36 pregnant ewes aged 1–6 years. The data observed included BCS assessment prior to birth, lamb birth weight measured using digital scales, and the number of lambs born. Statistical analysis used Spearman's correlation test to determine the relationship between variables. The results showed that the BCS of the ewes was not significantly related to the birth weight of the lambs (r = 0.093; p = 0.589) or the number of lambs born (r = 0.108; p = 0.532). Both correlation values were in the category of very weak and statistically insignificant relationships. These findings indicate that under the rearing conditions at PT. Sedana Peternak Sentosa, the BCS of ewes prior to lambing is not a dominant factor affecting birth weight or number of lambs. Other factors such as genetics, ewe age, feed quality, reproductive management, and environmental variations are likely to have a greater influence on these two parameters. This study is expected to serve as a reference in managing reproduction and ewe nutrition to improve sheep productivity.
