Abstract
Shearing time is one of the management aspects that influence the comfort and production performance of sheep, especially during the initial adaptation phase in the fattening pen. This study aims to evaluate the effect of different shearing times of horned Priangan sheep during the adaptation phase on feed consumption and daily body weight gain (DWG). The study was conducted for 60 days at Saudagar Farm, Cianjur Regency, West Java, using 40 male Priangan sheep. The method used was a field experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and eight replications, namely P0 (not sheared), P1 (sheared for 1 week), P2 (sheared for 2 weeks), P3 (sheared for 3 weeks), and P4 (sheared for 4 weeks) in the adaptation phase. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that different shearing times had a significant effect (P<0.05) on sheep feed consumption at 30 and 60 days of observation, with the highest consumption obtained in treatment P4. The PBBH parameter at 30 days did not show a significant difference between treatments (P>0.05), but at 60 days, it showed a significant difference (P<0.05), where P4 produced the highest PBBH. It was concluded that shearing in the fourth week of the adaptation phase provided more optimal conditions for increasing feed consumption and growth of horned Priangan sheep.
