Abstract
The film “Jika Hari Ini Aku Tidak Datang” is a short fictional film in the drama genre that raises issues of mental health and social pressure experienced by the younger generation, particularly university students in the final phase of their studies. This work focuses on the role of the director in guiding all elements of production to align with the narrative vision and to ensure that the emotional and moral messages of the film are effectively conveyed to the audience. As the director, the author is responsible for interpreting the screenplay, directing the actors, determining the storytelling style, and coordinating the cinematography, art, and sound departments to achieve aesthetic and meaningful unity.
The creative process of this work consists of three main stages: pre-production (story idea development, scriptwriting, casting, and technical planning), production (actor direction, blocking arrangement, and supervision of scene rhythm and intensity), and post-production (image editing, structuring of dramatic flow, and enhancement of emotional atmosphere through music and color grading). The results of this project indicate that the director’s role has a significant influence on building the narrative and emotional strength of the film through actor management and well-conceptualized visual direction. This film successfully represents life pressures and the importance of mental health awareness through a reflective storytelling approach. This work is expected to serve as an academic reference for students or film practitioners in understanding the director’s role as the primary controller of vision and creative direction in short fictional film production.
