Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of academic supervision in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning at Muhammadiyah Junior High Schools in Malang City, focusing on the current implementation, challenges and solutions, as well as effective academic supervision models within the Muhammadiyah school context. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects included principals, IRE teachers, IRE supervisors, and students from four Muhammadiyah junior high schools in Malang City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, while data validity was ensured through source triangulation, method triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that academic supervision has been implemented in a structured manner; however, several challenges remain, particularly time constraints, administrative workload, and variations in principals’ understanding of academic supervision. Effective academic supervision is characterized by a collaborative, continuous, and integrative approach that combines clinical supervision practices with Muhammadiyah Islamic values, thereby enhancing teacher professionalism and improving the quality of IRE learning. This study is expected to contribute both practically and theoretically to the development of academic supervision in Muhammadiyah schools.
