Abstract

This study aims to describe what types of student mistakes in solving mathematics problems according to Newman's theory. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The subject used in this study is grade IV.2 students of SD Muhammadiyah Sang Pencerah Metro. The data collection used is by means of tests and interviews. The results obtained from working on the student test questions are included in several categories, which then to reveal the type of student error, interviews are conducted with students who fall into the category. In conducting this interview stage, not all students of grade IV.2 are interviewed. Interviews were conducted by 9 students, 3 students each in each category. Subject selection is done through sampling techniques using Stratified Random Sampling. This research results that the first type of mistake that is most often made by students is the mistake of writing the final answer, the second mistake is at the stage of process skills, the third mistake is the transformation error and the least mistake is understanding the problem.
