Junior high school students from dysfunctional families often experience difficulties in emotional regulation. Mindfulness is a counseling technique that may enhance emotional awareness. This mixed method study aims to describe students’ mindfulness levels, perceptions, and obstacles in emotional management. The participants were six junior high school students in Batu City. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The findings indicate that most students have high mindfulness levels and perceive mindfulness as helpful in promoting calmness and emotional awareness, although challenges remain in managing intense emotions, environmental distractions, and emotional expression.
