Abstract

Learning motivation and students’ spiritual intelligence at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang were still considered low and had not been systematically integrated into learning assessment using valid instruments, and the learning process was still dominated by conventional teacher-centered methods. Therefore, the OIDDE Learning Model (Orientation, Identify, Discussion, Decision, Engage in Behaviour) was implemented as a student-centered approach. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the OIDDE Learning Model on environmental pollution material on students’ learning motivation and spiritual intelligence. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test–post-test non-equivalent control group design, involving two classes: class VII J as the experimental class and class VII I as the control class. The results showed that learning motivation in both the experimental and control classes did not increase. Instead, both classes experienced a decline; the experimental class showed a decrease of 1.62% with a significance value of 0.371 (> 0.05), indicating a non-significant decline, while the control class experienced a greater decrease of 5.25% with a significance value of 0.020 (< 0.05), indicating a significant decline. In terms of spiritual intelligence, the experimental class experienced an increase of 10.02%, while the control class experienced a decrease of 0.81%. The results of the Independent Sample T-Test showed a significance value of 0.865 (> 0.05), indicating that there was no significant difference between the two classes. Based on these findings, the OIDDE Learning Model did not have a significant effect on students’ spiritual intelligence or learning motivation; however, it was able to suppress the decline in learning motivation compared to conventional learning.
