Abstract

Petik Laut tradition is a cultural heritage of the coastal community of Tamberu Agung Village, Batumarmar District, Pamekasan Regency, which has been preserved to this day. This annual tradition, conducted during the month of Muharram (Suro), serves as an expression of gratitude and a request for safety for fishermen. This study aims to analyze the social communication of the Tamberu Agung Village community in preserving Petik Laut tradition. Using a qualitative descriptive approach based on the ethnography of communication, data were collected through interviews and documentation, analyzed using Spradley’s domain analysis, and validated through source triangulation. The findings show that social communication in preserving Petik Laut tradition is participatory, open, and grounded in togetherness, occurring in both formal and informal settings of daily life. Social communication not only facilitates the exchange of ideas and messages but also sustains traditional values, ensuring that Petik Laut tradition is preserved not merely as a ceremonial activity but as part of the community’s social identity.
