Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of teachers' pedagogic and professional competencies on students' ability to read the Qur'an, both partially and simultaneously, and to compare the results between two educational units, namely SMP Negeri 118 Jakarta and SMP Muhammadiyah 13 Jakarta. Teacher competence is a crucial element in ensuring the success of learning, especially in learning the Qur'an which requires a methodological approach, pedagogical skills, and a high mastery of religious materials. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The population in this study is all students in grades 7, 8, and 9 in both schools, and the research sample is 100 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling techniques. The data analysis technique used was multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS version 26. The results of the study show that in SMP Negeri 118 Jakarta, the pedagogic and professional competence of teachers simultaneously have a significant effect on the ability to read the Qur'an of students, with pedagogic competence showing a more dominant
influence. In addition, partially, these two competencies also have a significant effect. These findings show that the success of Qur'an learning in public schools is strongly supported by the active role of teachers who are able to implement learning strategies that are contextual and adaptive to student characteristics. On the other hand, in SMP Muhammadiyah 13 Jakarta, either partially or simultaneously, the pedagogic and professional competence of teachers did not show a significant influence. This indicates the need to improve the quality of the implementation of teacher competencies in the school. Thus, the results of this study strengthen the view that teacher competence will provide maximum results if accompanied by implementation that is in accordance with classroom conditions and adequate learning system support. Synergy is needed between teachers, schools, parents, and educational institutions in creating a supportive and
sustainable learning environment for the Qur'an.
