Abstract

This study aimed to develop mathematics teaching materials based on the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on the topic of ratios to improve the mathematical creative thinking ability of fifth-grade Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students, as measured by the indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. This research employed a Research and Development method using the 4D model, which consists of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research subjects were fifth-grade MI students. Data collection techniques included validation by material, language, and media experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, and mathematical creative thinking ability tests in the form of pretests and posttests. Data analysis was conducted to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed teaching materials, as well as the improvement in students’ creative thinking abilities. The results indicated that the developed teaching materials achieved a very high level of validity, with expert validation scores of 81.7 for material aspects, 85.0 for language aspects, and 83.0 for media aspects. The practicality of the teaching materials was categorized as very practical, based on student responses of 89.2% and teacher responses of 93.4%. The effectiveness of the teaching materials was demonstrated by an increase in the average pretest score from 40.18 to 78.04 in the posttest, with an N-Gain value of 0.64 in the medium category. Furthermore, improvements were observed across all indicators of students’ mathematical creative thinking ability after the implementation of RME-based teaching materials.
