Abstract

This study aims to understand the process of internalizing Islamic values within school culture and its impact on students at SMPN 6 Kota Bima. Islamic education plays an important role in shaping the morals of the younger generation in Indonesia, particularly at the junior high school (SMP) level, considering that the majority of the population is Muslim. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The research subjects included the school principal, Islamic Education teachers, and students. The findings indicate that the process of internalizing Islamic values is carried out through three stages: the transformation stage, the transaction stage, and the transinternalization stage, involving all elements of the school. Through the habituation of routine religious activities, students not only understand Islamic values theoretically but also practice them in their daily behavior. They demonstrate polite manners, discipline, responsibility, and a strong motivation to perform religious worship independently. A religious school culture and support from teachers play a significant role in the success of this process. The tangible impact of this internalization process is reflected in changes in students’ behavior, as they have become more religious, show greater respect for teachers, and consistently engage in religious activities at school. Thus, the internalization of Islamic values through school culture at SMPN 6 Kota Bima has proven effective in shaping students’ character to be faithful, morally upright, and responsible.
