Abstract

Obesity is a weight problem that women fear and has an impact on health and psychological problems such as feelings of low self esteem and body dissatisfaction. Self compassion is one of the factors that can influence body dissatisfaction. Self compassion is the ability to respect oneself, not judge one self, and accept failure as something that all humans experience. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of self compassion on body dissatisfaction among emerging adulthood women who are overweight and obese. The sample for this research was 42 respondents with the criteria being women aged 18 to 25 years old who had body mass index >27 kg/m2. The data collection method uses an accidental sampling technique. The results of this research using simple linear regression analysis show that there is a significant positive influence of self compassion on body dissatisfaction (R = 0,526, p = 0,000 < 0,05). Based on the regression results, R2 = 0.27,7 which means that the effective contribution of self compassion to body dissatisfaction was 27,7%, while the other 72,3% is influenced by other variables or factors outside of this research.
