Abstract

Kutang Beach in Labuhan Village, Brondong District, Lamongan Regency, is a
coastal area located near ports, settlements, and aquaculture ponds, and is also
utilized as a tourist destination. Human activities such as waste discharge from fish
and shrimp ponds and the exploitation of marine biota by visitors can create
environmental pressures that potentially affect the diversity of macrozoobenthos
organisms that live on the bottom of aquatic ecosystems and are highly sensitive to
environmental changes, making them useful as bioindicators of water quality.
Although similar studies have been conducted in other areas, research on
macrozoobenthos diversity at Kutang Beach had not been done. This study aimed
to identify the species of macrozoobenthos present, analyze the diversity index,
examine the relationship between environmental parameters (temperature, salinity,
pH, and dissolved oxygen) and macrozoobenthos diversity, and utilize the findings
as a contextual biology learning resource. The results revealed 12 species from 5
orders and 11 families, with a diversity index of 1.28, indicating a moderate level
of diversity. Statistical tests showed no significant relationship between the
physical-chemical parameters of the water and macrozoobenthos diversity,
suggesting that variations in these parameters do not significantly affect the number
or types of macrozoobenthos found. These findings highlight the potential of using
local biodiversity data as a relevant and contextual source for learning biology,
particularly for high school students studying the topic of biodiversity and its role
in ecosystems.
