Abstract

Final year students often experience decreased academic motivation, stress, and low
expectations due to the demands of final assignments, which can hinder graduation and
psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the effect of Future Time Perspective
(FTP) on Academic Hope (AH) in final year students. FTP is defined as an individual's
perception of time and future opportunities that motivate long-term planning, while AH is a
positive belief in academic goals supported by motivation (agency) and strategies (pathways).
This study used a quantitative correlational approach with a sample of 192 final year
undergraduate students (semesters 7-10) who were working on their final assignments, selected
through a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected through a Google Form
questionnaire that has been tested for reliability. Simple Linear Regression Analysis showed
that the majority of respondents had high levels of FTP and AH (85.9% and 95.8%,
respectively). The effective contribution value obtained was R square of 0.701 or 70,1%.
Research implications include recommendations for mentoring programs in higher education
to develop FTP to increase student motivation and resilience. Limitations include the limited
sample size at the final year level; further research is recommended to include moderating
variables such as social support.
