Abstract

Fear of commitment is a phenomenon that is now widely experienced by
Generation Z as a result of the proliferation of negative information about marriage on social
media. This view has given rise to a new perception that marriage is no longer an ideal
relationship, but rather a source of new problems, as reflected in the declining marriage rate in
Indonesia. Low or insufficient father involvement can contribute to the emergence of fear of
marriage among Generation Z in Indonesia, who are currently entering the transition phase
toward family life. This study aims to determine the relationship between father involvement
and fear of marriage among early adults of Generation Z in Indonesia. This study was
conducted using a quantitative approach with Spearman's correlation data analysis technique
on 387 early adults of Generation Z in Indonesia. The research instruments used in this study
were the father involvement scale and the fear of relationship commitment scale. The results
of this study indicate a significant relationship between father involvement and fear of
marriage among early adult Generation Z individuals in Indonesia (p < 0.05, r = -704) with a
negative direction of relationship. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the father
involvement experienced by individuals, the lower the fear of marriage felt by early adult
Generation Z individuals in Indonesia, and vice versa.
