Abstract

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often show hyperactive behavior that reduces their ability to remain seated in class, hindering the learning process and creating a less conducive classroom atmosphere. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of reinforcement in improving sitting endurance in children with ASD. A quantitative approach with a Single Subject Research (SSR) A-B-A design was applied. The subject was an eight-year-old student with hyperactive characteristics who struggled to stay seated during lessons. Data were collected through direct observation in the baseline, intervention, and follow-up phases, then analyzed using visual graphs. The results revealed increase in sitting duration after reinforcement through verbal praise and video songs based on the child’s interests. These
findings indicate that reinforcement is an effective strategy to help children with ASD sustain learning activities. This study also offers practical implications for teachers, therapists, and parents to apply reinforcement consistently, variedly, and according to the child’s needs to foster a more conducive learning environment and support social and academic development.
