Abstract

Foundation planning is one of the essential stages in building construction, particularly to ensure structural stability and user safety. In the construction project of the Faculty of Dentistry building University of Brawijaya, the results of core drilling and the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) indicated that the soil conditions at the site are classified as cohesive soil. The SPT results showed the presence of a hard soil layer capable of supporting the building load at a depth of 5.5 to 20 meters, with an N-SPT value of 50. Based on these conditions, shallow foundations are considered less effective in transferring structural loads; therefore, the author redesigned the foundation system using pile foundations. The pile foundation planning was carried out by considering soil bearing capacity, building load distribution, and safety factors to anticipate differential settlement. Through this redesign, the foundation is expected to optimally support the building loads, enhance structural stability, and provide efficiency during construction.
