Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven significant changes in the lifestyles of adolescents, including an increase in the trend of online shopping. Easy access to the internet and promotions from e commerce platforms have made adolescents vulnerable to online shopping addiction, especially when faced with psychological pressures such as academic stress. This study aims to investigate the relationship between academic stress and online shopping addiction among adolescents. The researcher employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design to examine the relationship between the two variables. The study sample consisted of 354 adolescents aged 12–20 years who are active users of e-commerce platforms. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The instruments used were the Educational Stress for Adolescents Scale and the Online Shopping Addiction Scale. The data analysis method employed was Spearman’s rho. The results indicated a significant positive correlation between academic stress and online shopping addiction among adolescents, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.812 and p < 0.000. Therefore, it can be concluded that adolescents who experience high academic stress tend to be more prone to excessive online shopping behavior.
