Abstract

Nurses serve as the frontline of healthcare providers and play a vital role in delivering patient care. The high demands of nursing work often affect nurses’ psychological well-being, which in turn can influence their level of work engagement. This study aims to examine the relationship between psychological well-being and work engagement among nurses in one of the hospitals in Martapura City. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach, and data were collected using a purposive sampling technique. The total number of participants was 205 nurses. The instruments used were the Short Version of the Scale of Psychological Well-Being and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), both of which had been adapted into the Indonesian language. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test through the IBM SPSS Statistics 27 program. The results showed a significant positive relationship between psychological well-being and work engagement (r = 0.852; p = 0.000). This finding indicates that the higher the nurses’ psychological well-being, the higher their work engagement, while nurses with lower psychological well-being tend to have lower levels of work engagement. Future research is recommended to explore other factors that may influence work engagement, such as workload, job satisfaction, and social support, by involving hospitals from various regions to obtain more comprehensive and generalizable findings.
