KESADARAN MASYARAKAT DALAM PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH RUMAH TANGGA (Studi Kasus Desa Sawah Sumur, Kecamatan Arjasa, Kepulauan Kangean)

The issue of waste remains very serious. Waste is one of the environmental problems that requires serious attention. Waste can be defined as a burden or a resource that is no longer valuable, depending on how it is managed. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of public awareness in waste management. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study research design. The subjects in this study were determined using purposive sampling. The data collection methods used were observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on field data and the results of theoretical analysis using the social construction of Peter L Berger and Tomas Lukman, the findings of this study are that the people of Sawah Sumur village manage waste by burning it. In addition, the community also disposes of waste into rivers, gardens, and caves. This is due to the lack of understanding among the people of Sawah Sumur village and the absence of proper education on waste management. The involvement of policy makers and environmental supervision also affects the level of public awareness. Therefore, an engineering solution is needed to tackle the problem of people disposing of waste through socialization and environmental education, the provision of facilities and infrastructure, and waste disposal or management as a top priority.
