IKUTI DAN BELI, STRES NANTI : PENGARUH FOMO DAN IMPULSIVE BUYING TERHADAP STRES FINANSIAL MAHASISWA

Abstract. Financial stress is a psychological pressure experienced by individuals due to their inability to manage financial needs and responsibilities. One of the factors that may influence financial stress among students is the fear of missing out (FOMO) and impulsive buying behavior, which often arise from social media use and consumerist trends. This study was conducted to determine the effect of FOMO and impulsive buying on financial stress among university students in Malang City. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 117 active students obtained through the accidental sampling technique. The instruments used were the FOMO scale, impulsive buying scale, and financial stress scale, all of which had been adapted into Indonesian. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS. The results showed that, both partially and simultaneously, FOMO and impulsive buying had no significant effect on financial stress (p > 0.05). The contribution of both variables to financial stress was only 0.9% (R² = 0.009), indicating that other factors outside FOMO and impulsive buying play a more dominant role in influencing students’ financial stress. This study suggest that financial stress among students is likely to be influenced more strongly by other factors such as financial literacy, personal money management, family support, and economic conditions.
