Abstract

Elderly individuals often experience balance disorders due to age-related physiological changes, which increase the risk of falls and negatively impact their quality of life. Walking exercise is one method known to improve body stability, strengthen muscles, and enhance movement coordination, making it an effective intervention for elderly individuals—especially those in nursing homes where physical inactivity can worsen balance problems. This study aimed to determine the effect of walking exercise on balance in elderly individuals at nursing homes in Malang City, using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design with 30 purposively selected participants. The results of the independent T-test showed a p-value < 0.01, indicating a significant effect of walking exercise on balance. In conclusion, walking exercise has a significant positive impact on improving balance in elderly individuals residing in nursing homes in Malang City.
