Abstract
Many studies have shown that parental social support plays a significant role in shaping
adolescent self-esteem. However, its impact on adolescents from poor families who face limited
resources, social pressures, and inequality in access to various resources still requires further
investigation. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of parental social support on adolescent
self-esteem in poor families. This study used a quantitative correlational approach with a simple linear
regression analysis method. The sample in this study consisted of 306 male and female adolescents
aged 10-19 years from families with incomes below the minimum wage, selected using a snowball
sampling technique. The instruments used were the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to measure
self-esteem and the Social Provision Scale (SPS) to measure parental social support. Data analysis was
performed using simple linear regression. The results showed a positive and significant influence
between parental social support and adolescent self-esteem (R = 0.791; p < 0.05), with a contribution
of 62.5%. These findings emphasize the importance of parents' role in providing emotional support,
especially for adolescents from families with limited economic conditions, to help them build healthy
and positive self-esteem.
