Abstract

Background : Stroke is a major neurological disorder caused by impaired cerebral blood flow and is a leading cause of disability and death. In Indonesia, its prevalence is 8.3 per 1,000 people. Ischemic stroke, the most common type, results from blocked brain vessels and is managed through pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies. Citicholine, a neuroprotective agent, supports neuronal repair and recovery, and has shown slight clinical benefits over placebo based on NIHSS, mRS, and GCS scores. Problem Formulation: What is the pattern of use of citicholine in ischemic stroke patients at RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang? Purpose: To determine the pattern of citicholine use in ischemic stroke patients, including dose, frequency, route, and duration of citicholine therapy at Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital, Malang. Method: This research is a descriptive study using a retrospective approach based on the medical records of ischemic stroke patients who received citicholine therapy throughout 2024. Results and Conclusion: The most common citicholine therapy pattern was monotherapy, found in 129 patients. The most frequently used citicholine monotherapy was intravenous citicholine at a dose of 3 × 500 mg per day, administered to 124 patients (96%). In addition, 4 patients (3%) received citicholine at a dose of 2 × 250 mg intravenously, and 1 patient (1%) received 3 × 500 mg orally. Meanwhile, 3 patients underwent a switch in citicholine therapy, either in dosage or route of administration, indicating clinical-based adjustments in therapy.
