Abstract
Low-income sandwich generation women are vulnerable to psychosocial stress due to their dual role as breadwinners for their families, making them prone to a decline in subjective well-being. Social support is an important external resource that plays a role in improving subjective well-being, but its effectiveness can be influenced by internal factors such as gratitude. This study aims to examine the role of gratitude as a moderator of the influence of social support on subjective well-being. The participants consisted of 138 low-income women of the sandwich generation who were selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included the Social Support Scale, the Subjective Well-Being Scale, and the Gratitude Questionnaire-Six Item Form (GQ-6). Data analysis was performed using Moderated Regression Analysis with the Hayes PROCESS model 1. The results showed that gratitude acted as a moderator of the effect of social support on subjective well-being (β=0.059; p=0.038). These findings indicate that gratitude strengthens the positive influence of social support on subjective well-being. This suggests that individuals with high gratitude are better able to feel, appreciate, and optimize the benefits of social support, thereby increasing their subjective well-being more significantly. The implication of this study is the need for multidimensional interventions in efforts to improve the welfare of sandwich generation women, not only through the provision of social support, but also through positive psychology intervention strategies to foster gratitude.
