Abstract
This study aims to analyze the extent of the supervisory role of Commission IV of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) in Air Pollution Control, which aims to analyze the effectiveness of the role and supervisory function of Commission IV of the DPR RI towards government policies in efforts to control air pollution in Indonesia. The background of this study departs from the increasing level of air pollution in various regions of Indonesia which has an impact on public health and environmental sustainability. As a legislative body, the DPR RI has an important function in overseeing the implementation of government policies to ensure they run in accordance with laws and regulations and the principles of sustainable development.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature review and secondary data analysis obtained from official documents of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), working meeting reports, and academic literature related to environmental oversight. The main focus of the research is directed at the forms and mechanisms of oversight implemented by Commission IV, both through working meetings, public hearings (RDPU), working visits, and submitting recommendations to relevant ministries and institutions. Furthermore, this study also examines obstacles faced in implementing oversight, such as weak inter-agency coordination, limited oversight resources, and low public participation in supporting air pollution control.
The research findings indicate that oversight by Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) plays a strategic role in encouraging improved air pollution control policies. However, its effectiveness still needs to be strengthened through greater synergy between the DPR RI, the government, and the public. Institutional capacity, transparency, and a shared commitment to upholding the principles of good environmental governance are needed. Therefore, this research is expected to contribute to strengthening the legislative oversight function so that air pollution control policies in Indonesia can be implemented more optimally, fairly, and sustainably.
