Abstract

Verbal abuse is a form of emotional abuse that involves the use of words to belittle, insult, or threaten another individual. Verbal abuse is therefore linked to emotional stability, whereby good emotional stability enables individuals to adapt to changes and pressures in life in a positive and constructive manner. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of verbal abuse by parents on emotional stability in late adolescence. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sampling technique used is accidental sampling. The instrument used to measure verbal abuse was the verbal abuse scale developed by Sinta Nuroniah, and the instrument used to measure emotional stability was the emotional stability scale by Schneider. The number of respondents in this study was 168 subjects with the criteria of adolescents who had experienced verbal abuse by their parents. Data analysis used simple linear regression testing with SPSS for Windows version 30.0. The results showed that there was a very low correlation between verbal abuse and emotional stability, with a significant value of 0.00 < 0.308. This means that the higher the level of verbal abuse, the lower the level of emotional stability in adolescents.
