Abstract

Cesarean section is an obstetric procedure with a high risk of
postoperative infection. Surgical site infections can increase morbidity, length of hospital stay, and healthcare costs. Therefore, the use of prophylactic and therapeutic antibiotics postoperatively plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of infection. However, irrational antibiotic use can lead to resistance, side effects, and
cost-effectiveness issues. This study aims to determine antibiotic use patterns in cesarean section patients at Kanjuruhan Regional Hospital, including antibiotic type, dosage, route of administration, timing, and switching patterns. This study used a retrospective descriptive design, collecting medical records from cesarean section patients at Kanjuruhan Regional Hospital, Malang, from January 2025 to February 2025. Fifty patients met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that all patients received single
antibiotic therapy. The antibiotics used included ceftriaxone, cefoperazone, cefadroxil, and ciprofloxacin. The most commonly used antibiotic was ceftriaxone (2x1g) intravenously in 49 patients. Furthermore, a therapy switch pattern was found in 41 patients (82%), from intravenous ceftriaxone to oral ciprofloxacin (39%) and to oral cefadroxil (61%).
