Abstract
Severe preeclampsia is one of the leading complications in pregnancy that significantly increases maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Management of severe preeclampsia involves controlling blood pressure, preventing seizures, and optimizing fetal outcomes. One of the important pharmacological interventions is the administration of dexamethasone to accelerate fetal lung maturity. This study aims to describe the pattern of dexamethasone use in severe preeclampsia patients at Kanjuruhan Hospital Malang, including dosage, route, interval, and duration of administration. This research was an observational and descriptive study with a retrospective approach, using secondary data from medical records of severe preeclampsia patients receiving dexamethasone therapy at Kanjuruhan Hospital Malang during the period January 2023–December 2024. Data were analyzed descriptively. The use of dexamethasone in severe preeclampsia patients at Kanjuruhan Hospital was not administered as a single therapy but always in combination with other medications such as magnesium sulfate, nifedipine, and methyldopa. The most frequently used regimen was dexamethasone 24 mg IV as a single course, given within 24 hours. The results indicate that dexamethasone plays an important role in improving perinatal outcomes, especially for fetal lung maturation, while combination therapy addresses maternal complications.
