Abstract
The final year of university is a phase in which academic challenges and burdens become
increasingly difficult to cope with. One problem that can arise from this situation is academic
burnout . To date, there has been little literature providing an overview of academic burnout based
on student demographics. Therefore, this study aims to provide a descriptive overview of academic
burnout among final-year students. This study was conducted using a descriptive quantitative
design. The study involved 332 final-year students currently enrolled at Muhammadiyah
University of Malang (UMM), selected using convenience sampling. To measure academic
burnout , the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) was used, which has a reliability coefficient of α =
0.83. The results indicate that the majority of final-year students at UMM experience academic
burnout in the moderate to high category. Additionally, significant differences in academic
burnout were found based on gender, faculty, and academic year. In addition, factors such as age,
faculty, and student year were found to have a significant role in academic burnout. Based on
these findings, it is crucial for all members of the academic community at UMM—including
educators, staff, peers, and students themselves—to understand the serious issue of academic
burnout . Collective efforts are needed to address and prevent burnout among students.
