Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the impact of feed formulation on frozen semen production in Limousin and Simmental cattle. Secondary data on frozen semen production were collected from 10 adult bulls during the period of January to August 2023. Two types of feed were used, namely Feed A (consisting of forage, silage, concentrate, hay, wafer, mineral, and ATP plus) and Feed B (consisting of forage, silage, concentrate, mineral, and ATP plus). Feed A was given in January-April, November, and December, while Feed B was given in May-October. Data analysis was performed using a paired t-test to compare the effects of the two types of feed on semen production. The results revealed that the average semen production of Limousin cattle was higher when fed Feed B (15,473 doses) compared to Feed A (13,883 doses), although the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). On the other hand, Simmental cattle showed higher semen production when fed Feed B (16,213 doses) compared to Feed A (15,473 doses), with a significant difference (P < 0.05). This finding indicates that Feed B has a positive impact on both Limousin and Simmental cattle. In conclusion, appropriate feed formulation can increase semen production, taking into account the differences in metabolic and physiological needs between the two cattle breeds. This study provides recommendations for breeders in designing optimal feeding patterns to improve the quality and quantity of frozen semen production
